Sour Lemons Treasurer Post

Sour Lemons addresses the lack of social mobility and diversity in leadership roles across the creative industries. We do this by delivering creative leadership training programmes for young leaders from diverse backgrounds, alongside consultancy and bespoke training services for creative organisations. At the heart of Sour Lemons is the belief that any disadvantage in life can be turned into an advantage. In other words, any sour lemon can become lemonade.

About this position

We are a small but mighty team in our first year of operation. Sour Lemons is led by Sade Brown, Founder and Trustee, alongside five trustees who specialise in law, youth constancy, fundraising, marketing & press and strategic planning.

As Treasurer, you will be responsible for overseeing Sour Lemons financial performance. You will report on financial matters to the Board of Trustees ensuring they are aware of any key risks or implications that may affect the achievement of the business or strategic plan. You will also regularly liaise with the Founder to ensure all legal and governance requirements are met and best practice is followed.

Essential to this role is demonstrable experience of budgets, management accounts and financial proposals. You will be an accountant or senior financial professional with experience of working at a senior level on a committee or board.

This is a voluntary role although travel expenses may be claimed.

About you

Sour Lemons is in its first year of operation therefore we are looking for a treasurer who doesn’t mind getting stuck in, helping to create the templates for managing accounts on a day to day basis, and preparing the year one accounts for the Charity Commission.

It is essential that you have a positive attitude and can relate to the Sour Lemons ethos and vision for increasing diversity in leadership roles. You will possess excellent communication skills and be able to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders acting as an ambassador for Sour Lemons. You will also have a strong track record of effective contributions to a board.

You will be determined to achieve Sour Lemons mission and strategic plan and be committed to the statement of good governance. You will be willing to take accountability for your own actions and be committed to confidentiality.

The Commitment

Trustee Meetings are held bi-monthly for the first year at a central London location. You will also be required to have a monthly phone call or face to face meeting with the Founder to check the accounts. As the charity grows, the amount of contact time will decrease however for the first year, it is important that you are able to commit to roughly four hours a month.

You will also be invited to engage with the leadership programme by attending a Networking dinner, the Graduation Ceremony and any other events that appeal. You may also be asked to meet with specific young leaders to offer advice and guidance if applicable. This will be arranged on an ad hoc basis however, you should anticipate a minimum of three events a year.
